Everyone knows that EVH is shredding on Michel Jackson’s Beat It…but this is not the only collaboration of megastars out there…
This is a banger article. You get to listen to amazing solos of amazing songs. But there’s a catch…you have no idea who is shredding the solos…so take a guess and test how well you are actually equipped with guitarist knowledge!
How This goes
Simple and extremely fun. BTW. I’ll put the team here at GND through this as well…
- First, listen through solos and make your educated guess
- Reveal your answers in the comment section of this article, not on FB. Let’s gather the results here, not on Zuckerberg’s platform. (Do you have the courage to do this btw…haha, just teasing).
- Then check the right answers down below.
- After couple of days, come back to see what others have guessed!
Got it? Good. Let’s get started.
BTW. Share this to your guitairst buddies to see how well or badly they will do!

Conclusion
How many did you get right? I created this fun article so I couldn’t participate in all the fun of guessing, but Justin from GND originally sent me one of these songs (Rise) and I made me guess…I guessed wrong. I know, embarrassing. Thank you for visiting and see ya soon!

Well…apparently my guitarist knowledge is somwhere between 0 to minus 10.
I think you should forgive yourself for number 1. After all David Lee Roth seemed to mistake Steve Vai for EVH 🙂
1.Dimebag
2.Eric Clapton
3.Jared Dines
4.Dave Murray
5.Synyster Gates
Being that I set the first one, I might just know it. I need to state that I grew up with the Sex Pistols and bought this as a single when it was released. I was 12. The guitarist involved came into my view about 2-3 years later. I was never a MASSIVE fan as I found his own music a touch “self-indulgent” yet his collaboration work is ALWAYS amazing. His solo on “Hot Dog n Shake” from David Lee Roth’s Skyscraper is of another world.
Steve Vai – Now you know, you’ll go back and listen. Check out the solo on “Hot Dog n Shake” here https://youtu.be/I2D3QX1zPSo?si=j9K-Iw3s1Zo50dHm&t=84
Right, now I’m guessing like the rest of you.
The 2nd one is a bit cryptic and the 2 other answers are SO close. Mark Knopfler, good pick up on the finger picking. Eric Clapton, closer than you think. Yes, it’s a Yardbird, but the finger picking Yardbird and, possibly, the most underrated guitarist ever.
Jeff Beck!!
3rd. I don’t know. I think it is a guitarist I don’t know, but from my collection then nearest sound would be
George Lynch
4th. You can’t hide that tone. In fact in the moments before the solo starts Meatloaf sells it hard.
Brian May
5th. Not a clue. I’ve never listened to any of their material. My reference would be the funk-esque attack pre-solo. For this I find Mark Knight of Bang Tango. Yet, I know I’m wrong!
Looking through the responses, I think we should leave our ages here too. They are showing 🙂 49
